Difficult to find a pattern here. Software does ususaly not degrade unless something changes in the system or environment.

Did you check the INS system log in this case? Did it show that the "8" has been received by INS?

Again, did the system log report the keys pressed ?

If you can not see the DTMF keys reported in the system log, then the modem does not report them correctly. Sometimes modems tend to overhead on continous use and hang until reseted. Have you tried not to reboot the PC, but simply reboot the modem ?
Another clue may be the modem driver. We had several cases where the driver had memory leaks, causeing the queue to fill up and block further processing. Upgrading to the newest version of the driver may help here.

If you can see the DTMF responses in the log, then there is a problem with INS and or the script you are using. In this case please send us the c:\ins\session.log and the script you are using and we have a closer look.
