>BDE error

Hi Vincent

The issue you describe is related to an error within BDE.
The issue is that BDE mis-calculates available free space if the that space is -near- a multiple of 4GB.
The issue is about FREE space, not size of disk.
In 4GB multiples, when you get close to a 4GB 'barrier' the BDE will report the space left to that next 4GB barrier.
This has been reported on many sites, but to be honest we never cam across it so far.

We thoroughly evalated the available options and I would like to share the findings with you.

Option to replace the BDE altogether (e.g. with Absolute from Component Ace)
We evaluated many of the BDE replacements and found some of them a stable replacements. The problem here is that all of them lack the advanced features of BDE like the ability to use ADO to access the database through a VB script, or the ability to use and access other databases (like MySQL).
Those features are however part of the feature set of INS, can therefore not be discarded easily.

Option to fix the bug programmatically in INS
It would be quite easy to apply a fix for this bug in INS. This would prevent the bug from happening again in INS, however other applications that use BDE will still experience the same problem. So this does not really address the root cause.

Option to patch the BDE
As the root cause is with the BDE, we decided to patch the BDE instance we distribute. This will prevent the issue from happening again in INS, but also from happening in other applications that use our instance of BDE.
At the same time we also make use the latest release of BDE (5.202).
From INS release 7.7.1 onwards, this new and patched BDE version will be distributed with INS.
For existing installations we made available on our web server http://www.mawnet.com/download/patch_BDE_20130123.zip
a download. Just refer to the readme.txt in the ZIP file.
This patch can be applied to any version of INS without affecting the installation.

I hope this will meet your requirements.

Best Rgds and sorry for the troubles
Marc
