Voice quality on Brooktrout boards

Just a query, when ever we play our voice prompt down the phone, which we recorded professionally at 44.100hz 8 & 16 bit mono, they are barley
audiable and seems to be moving slow.
we tried altering the recording setting as your notes indicate if we have a voice board (Brooktrout 8 line) you can do this, without consulting you.
I spoke to Brooktrout and they indicate its a software problem, i know this problem isnt that big... but any suggession where we might have gone
wrong.
