You do not need to send the SMS though modems, you may also send them
through the internet. The modem is mainly used for the IVR (voice prompts).
For a high quality professional system you may decide to use a voice board
instead of a voice modem.

Sure, by using the "Run Program" cell you can call an external application
to send the SMS. We have many customers using our application for the IVR
and IE WinSMS for sending the SMS.
