Check-it item number of characters

I am using check-it to send SMS messages on the change of state in a citect variables database. To make the task easier I am copying the citect Tag name directly into check-it the problem I have is citect allows 32 characters where as check-it appears to validate DDE topics using the first 8 characters. With many of the citect tag names in citect the first 8 charaters are identical therefore Check-it tells me the event already exists. Is there away around this ?
