Then I start running out of ideas :-(

The communication between SMS-it and the mobile is fine. It answers to all AT commands correctly, except the last, where you actually submit the message. As a matter of fact, SMS-it simply tells the mobile to send an SMS message to a number. From then on it is (should be) the same as if you manually send the message.

Did you try with different messages ?
To different numbers ?
Can you try to change the number to send the SMS to from +4179xxxxxxx to 079xxxxxxx.
