Joe,

The system tries to open the SMS Channel on COM2 but fails as the mobile phone does not returns the OK message when sending a ATZ for initialization.
Can you please try the following:

1) Run HyperTerminal.exe
2) Connect to COM2, 9600 Bds, 8,1
3) Type ATZ

and check what is returned from the mobile phone.
