Sending email with gmail (TLS)

How do I get email to send using TLS. At the moment I have host set as smtp.gmail.com with port 587. However if I leave "Authenticate" option blank, it passes Test but gets a 530 error when sending.
If I select "Authenticate" option, then it fails test with a must issue a STARTTLS comment
