Using SendMsg with contact lists

Using:
'SendMsg.exe NOW DEFAULT >LIST1 "Hello world"'
a warning msg box is displayed indicating wrong format used.

If I change it to:
'SendMsg.exe NOW DEFAULT LIST1> "Hello world"'
an error in Message Center says user 'Hello' is not found.

How do we use SendMsg with a contact list.
