"+CMS ERROR: 500" means unknown error...

I checked the support DB of Ericsson and found the following entry:

when I set "preferred services" (under Settings/Data comm) to
GSM only!! It works fine when I have GPRS + GSM activated.
Really strange. With GPRS activated it is then prone to lose a
network connection (here in NZ anyway).
